The collection mainly consists of correspondence of Sydney C. Heindel, Jr. to his parents in Cornelia, Georgia, from 1942-1946. Heindel's letters detail his training at military camps and schools in California, Nebraska, and at the Army Specialized Training Program (Stanford University, California). Heindel also writes from China and India, describing his duties with the Maintenance Company, the locales, news of family and friends, books he has read, and military social life. The collection consists of letters Camden Evans wrote to his wife and her father in Columbus (Ga.) from 1862-1864. He wrote from numerous camps in towns including Tupelo (Miss.), Murfreesboro (Tenn.), and Ringgold and Dalton (Ga.). In his letters he complained about how badly privates were treated and the lack of food and clothing. He asked Mr. Laney to bring him a boy to wash his clothes and forage for food, and he constantly tried to arrange for a furlough or a substitute. He gave his opinions of Generals Grant, Johnson, Bragg and Hardee. By May 22, 1864 he was near Atlanta and described having no clean clothes for three weeks, and being on picket duty for 24 hours without relief. By July 12, 1864 he had learned of his son Bobbie's death. His last letter is dated July 17, 1864. There is one letter from Emma to her husband and several letters from her after the war to her mother. In these she mentioned her second husband Steve Smith, her daughter Daisy, and a move to Birmingham (Ala.)

This collection contains correspondence, ephemera, and a photograph album regarding the time that Floyd Flansburg spent in the U.S. Army, 71st Engineers. Also included are letters from 1938 while he was in a VA Hospital in Bath, New York. The collection contains several references to the flu outbreak of 1918, and the some typed rosters of the 214th and 71st Engineers.

The collection consists of copies of letters, writings, transcripts of diaries, and other materials of Clark Berry Stewart from 1836-1839 and 1848-1885. Included is a fine collection of Civil War letters from his son-in-law, J.L. Stoddard, who was serving in Virginia. The diary transcripts (copied from the WPA transcripts) contain short entries discussing his religious education, social life, his service as a minister including where he preached (mostly in South Carolina), his farming activities, and finances.

The collection consists of papers of Kate Harben Jones from 1922-1947. Includes corrected typescripts of Jones' essays, short stories, and reminiscences; photographs of the Jones family; correspondence; and v-mail. Most of the correspondence (1933-1945) consists of letters to Jones from her son, Herbert F. Jones, during his military service in World War II. Herbert wrote from Fort Riley (Kan.), Camp Gordon (Ga.), Fort Dix (N.J.), and Fort Pierce (Fla.) describing his military training, military service clubs, and the local areas. After being shipped overseas (1944), Herbert wrote from England, Germany, and France describing the area, the people and their reaction to American military troops, the Normandy invasion, reconnaissance patrols, wounds he received, his medical treatment, and military activity after Germany's surrender. The correspondence also contains letters to Kate Jones from other family members and literary acquaintances.

The collection consists of letters, cartes-de-visite (most unidentified), biographical information on Rachel Gunby Jordan and Eugene P. Burnett, printed material, Confederate money, clippings, and locks of hair. The main portion of the collection consists of letters written to Delia D. Jordan in Sparta, Georgia, from her fiance Eugene Paul Burnett during the Civil War. His letters describe daily camp life, his duties as Inspector General, and details of battles as he moved through South Carolina, Florida, Virginia, and North Carolina. There are also letters from Delia's brothers, William Franklin Jordan, Robert Pierpont Jordan, and George Gunby Jordan. Also in the collection is a photograph of General Robert E. Lee and an Augusta newspaper, Daily Constitutionalist, from July 3, 1862. The newspaper contains descriptions of the current battles and lists of wounded men, including W.F. Jordan.
